Keep a log of every contact you make. A lot of people love simple Excel templates, but you can always use Outlook to keep logs too, using the journal, which can track meetings in your calendar, to-dos, e-mails, and into which you can insert your own notes.
Always watch out who referred you and do them favors. Keith Ferrazzi may tell you not to keep track but watch out other people do.
Keep a book of all the business cards that come your way -- it's always nice to be able to refer back.
