Networking > Follow Up

Immediate Follow-Up

Always send thank-you notes. Even something like "Thank you for taking the time to interview me, I look forward to..."

If you're interviewed by more than one person, send a seperate thank-you to each interviewer.

You can follow-up 48 hours later if you think tons of people will have followed-up 24 hours after a specific event.

Continuing Follow-Up

Keep following up after the interview to keep your relationship current.

Only follow up about once a week and vary your method. Don't be a stalker, and don't be repititive.

Research the person with whom you spoke and come up with a specific connection, then send monthly, targeted e-mails to them. A great topic for an e-mail is "I saw this article on [subject] and I remember we talked about it, thought you'd be interested."

Format

Use the same header as for your resume. Visual contiguity is important!

Always 100% cotton paper with a pleasing color and no funny coloring or designs.
