Interviewing > Strong Marketing Attributes

There are many different kinds of Marketing! Don't focus on Brand Management. There's Marketing Research, if you're analytical, for instance.

What is a Brand Manager?

  • Hub of a wheel within a company
  • Touches everything
  • Leads teams on everything -- the team's output is your responsiblity
  • Both before and after launch

Key Marketing Attributes

  • Leadership
  • Strong oral & writted communications skills -- always making presentations, have to be able to do this all the time, every time. (Look out! They'll dissect your cover letter with a fine-toothed comb!)
  • Analytical capabilities -- think analytically and put things in a structure. Keep an eye on your profit, 'cause you'll have to make your numbers to plan and launch your products
  • Team player -- people need to want to work with you
  • Right fit within the team -- am I a fit? Did you enjoy yourself at the receptions, in the meet-and-greet? There's a look for every company, you want to look like that. Be honest, you'll be happier that way.
  • Strategic thinker/visionary
  • Sees everything as a brand (and looks for brands everywhere)
