Interviewing > Clock Management
Just as football coaches must manage the clock so that there's enough time to make that last game-winning drive, you must manage the interview's clock to make sure that you have time to get in that job-winning point. Most on-campus interviews (and many off-campus ones) will last 30 minutes.
- You'll spend about two minutes, straight off, shooting the breeze, introducing yourselves, and gaining some minimum level of comfort
- You'll probably be kicked out of the interview room with five minutes to go so that the interviewer can take notes on you and prep for the next interview
- The interviewer will probably try to give you about ten minutes to ask questions
- That means that you only have about 13 minutes to sell yourself
- Use the first two minutes of that to get your focus statement out there
